The ‘Resu-Wrecked Heron’ Ladies Bar & A-la-Carte Restaurant is situated on the beach and overlooks the sea. Sip cocktails seated around a unique bar boat named the ‘Heron’. Cheer your team on during live DSTV sports matches … enjoy sitting at a beach bonfire or dance to entertainment on Saturday nights while your children are supervised and excitedly ‘crab counting’ on the beach by torchlight. Basset Breweries produces a range of superb craft beers, brewed and bottled on-site in picturesque Pennington. “Learn how great beer is made on our brewery tours (booking essential). Our new tasting room is open 7 days a week from 10 am -4 pm. We have hard rock, cold beer and good people. Additional facilities include nursery, driving range and coffee shop.”
Zizi’s Restaurant, at 4-star Umdlalo Lodge in Umtentweni, offers a great dining experience and is fully licenced. The menu caters for meat lovers and vegetarians and a comfortable bar becomes a great conversational space over liquid inspiration. The restaurant and lodge is owned by the Mseleku’s, South Africa’s famous polygamists. Zizi’s opens on bookings only basis.
Trattoria La Terrazza, owned by Massimo and Nicci Negra, caters for Italian food lovers who like the innovative and contemporary Mediterranean touches. Situated on the Umkobi Lagoon in Southbroom, the scenery complements the service. The restaurant is known for its desserts and serves local handmade cheeses. Find some of the top SA wines on their wine list, with a small selection of French champagnes and Italian sparkling wine. Beautiful sea views and seating for 40 people on the lower deck, makes it an ideal setting for lazy lunches. The interior seats 50 people comfortably and many a wedding, birthday and corporate function have been hosted at Trattoria La Terrazza. Booking is essential due to opening times.
Tom Dick & Harry has been trading for more than 20 years, providing a loyal following with traditional British fare, including fish and chips, seafood platters, burgers, curries, steak and baskets. Get a quick takeaway or sit down in the pub or family-friendly restaurant. Open for lunch till late.
Tiago’s is a locally owned flame-grilled chicken restaurant and takeaway. Home to local legend, the Tiago’s Jumbo Chicken Burger, the favourite local eatery’s KZN South Coast branches can be found in Margate, Shelly Beach, Hibberdene, Port Edward and Port Shepstone. Tiago’s promise is that “You never forget your first flame”, so make your way there and find out.
Fusion food restaurant, The Packshed, is situated at Sweetdale Adventure Farm. The team, inspired by their travels to the food capitals of the world, source responsible ingredients to bring you simple, artisanal flavours. Hosted by Connie, Daniel, Sam and Mario, The Packshed brings you daily changing menus based on the daily harvest. The dessert menu is highly original and, in season, try something as adventurous and tropical such as the Deconstructed Pineapple Tiramisu… you are in Paradise after all… or taste what happens when carrot cake meets crème Brulee! Very popular with all who like the great atmosphere and tastes. If you’re there in the evening, don’t miss looking at the magical lights from the patio at the back of the restaurant.
The Lobster Pot Restaurant in Ramsgate has been the “seafood specialists” for over 50 years. A full a-la-carte menu, pub lunches, ladies bar, a 4-course Sunday lunch and a Dine & Dance on the first Friday of the month, are on offer. The restaurant is fully licensed, making it a great venue for functions too. Apart from seafood, specialities include lobster, steaks, ribs, pasta and Natal curries.
The Highland Fryer, opposite Shelly Centre in Shelly Beach, has been voted the South Coast’s Best Restaurant in 2018 in the Best of South Coast Awards after a fire closed the restaurant at the end of 2017. The restaurant has affordable prices and is a popular choice for Sunday lunches. Despite the name and décor, do not expect a Scottish menu. The restaurant is frequented by locals and offers friendly service with food such as Eisbein, curries, fish and chips and more.
